After Effects Skills -

Compositing Examples

All of these 8 lessons have helped me to create my viral advert. At the beginning of the project I was unfamiliar with how to use Adobe’s After Effects CS6 but after completing these 8 lessons from the book, ‘Adobe After Effects CS6 – Classroom in a Book’, I was able to apply something from each lesson into my Tint Tastic Hair Colours Viral Advert. Here are some brief examples to show how I have incorporated each lesson into my advert:

  • Lesson 1 – This lesson helped me to understand the layout of After Effects and its workflow. I learned how to, create a project, import footage and create a composition, which is the starting point for any project.

  • Lesson 2 - This lesson taught me how to apply and edit effects and animation presets to layers, which I applied to many areas of my Advert; an example would be when the Tint Tastic logo appears near the end. All elements animate in using effects and presets I had customised to my own preference.

  • Lesson 3 – From this lesson I learnt how to create and format point text, use a text animation preset, animate using keyframes and use parenting. All of these were used in the creation of my advert but the simplest example for me to use is that I have included the use of text throughout my entire advert.

  • Lesson 4 – In this lesson I was taught how to add a shape layer and create custom shapes, which I used to create the yellow bar that first animates in for the Tint Tastic logo.

  • Lesson 5 – This lesson showed me how to keyframe a motion path and adjust an anchor point, which are both things I used when animating many of the products in the advert.

  • Lesson 6 – In this lesson I was taught how to apply video to my project which I included when importing and customising the ink videos that appear in almost every frame the advert.

  • Lesson 7 – This lesson showed me how to creating a mask with the pen tool, and how to edit and feather a mask. I used all these features when applying the hairbrush wipe transition. I was also introduced to the use of 3D in this lesson, which I applied to my advert throughout to give it a greater sense of depth.

  • Lesson 8 – From this lesson I was shown how to distort and animate objects with the puppet tools, which I included when animating the shaving brush and foam.
